While the doors to our beloved venue remain closed and the whole world as we know it seems to have turned upside down, we wanted to continue to do what we love doing! So…. we are very proud to present “Virtually Green Note… in the round”… a series of specially-curated, unique online musical events that will run every Wednesday and Friday evening at 8pm (UK time), streamed live to our website, our YouTube and Facebook page.

FINDLAY NAPIER: One of Scotland’s finest singer songwriters. Described as Micheal Marra meets Elvis Costello, a Caledonian Loudon Wainwright III or a Scottish James Taylor this master storyteller’s songs are full of earthy humour, hopeless love and biting satire.JENNY STURGEON: For singer-songwriter Jenny Sturgeon, nature and song are intrinsically linked. Environment, ecology and the elements are a touchstone for the Shetland-based musician and The Living Mountain, her second solo album, is a fine example of the way humankind can connect and be inspired by the natural world.
From the start, Jenny‘s musical career has been tightly entwined with the environment – in part influenced by her previous work, as a seabird ecologist.
Nominated for Best Acoustic Award at 2020 Scottish Alternative Music Awards and Composer of the Year at the 2018 Scots Trad Music Awards, Aberdeenshire-raised Sturgeon also performs with acclaimed alt-folk band Salt House and in the bird and migration-inspired Northern Flyway – an audio visual project co-written with Inge Thomson.

NANCY KERR– English violinist, singer and songwriter Nancy Kerr is one of the most celebrated folk musicians of her generation and has to date won 6 BBC Folk Awards including 2015’s Folk Singer of the Year. She performs solo and in a multi-award-winning duo with James Fagan as well as with many other ensembles, and is Principal Lecturer in Folk at Leeds Conservatoire.
A former member of the EFDSS-originated band The Full English, Nancy has composed and performed as part of commissions The Elizabethan Session, Sweet Liberties (which had its debut performance in the Houses of Parliament) and Shake the Chains. Her 2016 album Instar extended themes from 2014’s BBC-nominated Sweet Visitor, to examine the relationship between folk song and the environment.
Autumn 2020 sees the release of single Fatima’s Lady Macbeth – a timely reminder of the transformative power of art and diversity in contemporary Britain. Commissioned from Nancy by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in 2019 and premiered in a special performance at the Stratford upon Avon Poetry festival along with actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company, this song has moved and uplifted live audiences and is deeply significant to our current times.
