Mixing all the appealing sounds of Celtic groove, Americana folk, and stripped back-soul, EWAN MACINTYRE and his band take the listener through dazzling folk roots stories—filled with pizzicato cello and fiddle strings, warm and wavy guitar hooks, and of course, Macintyre’s raw, but soothing voice.
Tha album ‘Dream On Sally’ is an aural painting designed to free the soul from the delusions and nightmares of constrained existence. A beautiful sound urged to roam free! 8.5/10 Ian D Hall, Liverpool Sound and Vision 2020. This May 2023 celebrates the release of Ewan’s fourth record; Twenty First Century Fool, recorded over lockdowns and curfews with a seven piece band in Montreal, Quebec, and finished on the Isle of Skye. The album features signature lush string arrangements and two original Scottish Gàidhlig compositions, marking the end in a series of 4 records over 8 years in Quebec.
In 2014 Ewan ventured to Canada where he created his first solo E.P. You Probably Look Better Naked Anyway (#3 national folk/ roots charts of Canada). This album spiraled into 4 cross Canada tours and tours in Europe, where he developed his sound and honed his skills as a band leader and songwriter. Following a brief hiatus after the COVID pandemic, Ewan picks up the pieces with his brand new release, accompanied with some short tours around the UK and Canada.
Ewans music has been featured on the BBC and CBC as well as in various plays and soundtracks. He has also done support for ‘Hot House Flowers’, ‘Coolio’ and ‘Hidden Orchestra’.
For many people, signing your first record deal with a major label like Mercury aged seventeen would seem like a dream – for HOLLY LOWE, it was a reality. But as her manager said at the time – signing your first record deal is only 1% of your career. Disillusioned and disheartened by the reality of the industry in those years, she decided to focus on what mattered to her more than fame and fortune – honing her craft.
Taking a hiatus from recording and touring her own music, Holly has carved a path playing piano and singing at the most prestigious events around the world, whether it be being flown in to play for Omani royalty, a vineyard wedding in South Africa, a golf course opening in the Middle East or the Cannes Film Festival. Born in London, raised in Scarborough, escaping to Europe and with music in the family it’s unsurprising that Holly set off for a life of musical adventure. Adapting to such varied contexts and events meant her already diverse musical range expanded further. Yet, even though it seemed to have been on pause for a while, the creativity never left her; percolating in the background as life experiences, love and philosophy were brewing something within her that would soon have to be released back into the world.
