NEW ROOTS PRESENTS…. Ned Roberts + Dariush Kanani

NED ROBERTS is a wonderfully accomplished folk musician with a timeless quality to his sound. His perfectly balanced Laurel Canyon-esque songs delivered with a poetic turn of phrase, excellent musicianship and a perfectly judged vocal sensibility sit comfortably amongst the classics of the acoustic folk world. He recently released his debut album to rave reviews, recorded in L.A. and produced by Luther Russell (Noah and rthe Whale/ Richmond Fontaine), and completed a support tour with folk legend Anais Mitchell.

‘Absolutely gorgeous stuff…one to really get excited about’ Lauren Laverne, BBC 6Music

“…a warm treat. Roberts is a fine guitar picker, his melodies reminiscent of Leonard Cohen with lyrical nods to Bob Dylan, and his voice has echoes of Tim Hardin.” Observer ★★★★.

‘An understated gem’ – The Independent on Sunday

‘…so gifted, possessing a fine ear for a tune and a real knack for storytelling..stunning’. 8/10 Uncut

DARIUSH KANANI has studied guitar with fingerpicking guitar legends Stefan Grossman and John Renbourn and supported Grossman by his request on his sell out tour of the UK last year. He has also played frequently alongside British guitar giant Wizz Jones and recently appeared at a special tribute concert for the late John Renbourn at Cecil Sharp House in London alongside Jacqui McShee, Ralph McTell, Bernard Butler,Graham Coxon and more.
Kanani’s powerhouse, percussive, ‘back slap’ guitar technique and solid grooves are reminiscent of a young John Martyn. Coupled with an ethereal voice that calls to mind John Mayer, Paul Simon and James Taylor, his sound is deeply soulful. A consummate musician, his songs skilfully combine folk, soul and jazz to make for a style that is truly his own.
