BROOKE SHARKEY: Brooke Sharkey is celebrating the release of her new album Under Stones. Poetic English and French indie folk inspired by dreams and the landscapes of Norway.
Brooke Sharkey grew up in London before moving to France at the age of 9, which naturally draws her songwriting to be both in English and French.
Her musical journey started the pubs in Norfolk before heading further afield to perform in the streets of London, Paris, Bristol and beyond
Since 2010 she has released 3 EPs and 2 albums, and her 2017 record ‘Wandering heart’ captured the attention of The Guardian, naming her one of the top 50 independent artists in the world. Brooke moved to Oslo, Norway, in 2020 mid pandemics and since has been nurturing a new collection of songs inspired and informed by daily life, dreams, Norwegian landscapes and the work of writers and poets such as Mary Oliver, Rumi and Robin Wall Kimmerer.
For this record, Brooke has collaborated with musicians from the Oslo music Scene and further afield. (Simin Tander – Lilja Oddrun, Kristin Bolstad, Herman Wildhagen, Liam Chapman & Francois Marry). In addition, field recordings from her local area (a redwing bird in a local woodland, the sound of Alna River in Oslo…) are brought to the songs to create a sonic universe which echoes the time and places in which the songs were born.
To celebrate the release of this new album Under Stones, Brooke will be performing at The green note on September 14th accompanied by Norwegian singer songwriter, Aksel Undset (Isak’s Island) on guitar.
