GEORGIA MOONEY is an ARIA-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Sydney. Her music is ornate and hand-crafted, telling stories of longing, the beauty and potency of vulnerability, and the complexities of connection and perception, carried by her soaring ethereal voice over lush, cinematic soundscapes.
As one quarter of beloved folk band All Our Exes Live in Texas, Mooney became a festival favourite, touring extensively around the world. She’s shared the stage with everyone from the Backstreet Boys to Nathaniel Rateliff to Midnight Oil.
In 2023, Georgia Mooney will release her debut solo record, co-produced with Grammy-winner Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Cate Le Bon, Marlon Williams). The release of critically acclaimed debut singles ‘War Romance’ and ‘I Am Not in a Hurry’ mark an exciting new chapter and the stepping forward of a major talent.
Mooney’s music exists beyond the bounds of time and space. An avowed Star Wars nerd who presents as a 40s movie star – she seems both from a long time ago and a galaxy far away, while speaking directly to the present. Influences from every member of the Wainwright family, Joni Mitchell, the sophistication of the Great American Songbook and even classical composers sift through her songs seamlessly, alongside fuzzed out guitars and production that evoke the unsettling genius of Kate Bush – both her idiosyncratic wall of sound instrumentation and unexpected turns of chords and melodies.
“Georgia Mooney transcends the folk band [All Our Exes Live in Texas]’s critical acclaim by embarking on a solo journey…chock-full with pure cinematic artistry” – Wonderland
“Mooney’s airy and ornate vocals take center stage..Initially, the track recalls the baroque pop of artists like Weyes Blood, but with the chorus, it steadily takes on a dreamy cinematic sheen, one more akin to Kate Bush” – Under The Radar
Gatrill released her second album, Cocoon, in 2017 via the Japanese label Flau.[2] Critics noted that the arrangements drew from a much wider and often darker sonic palette – introducing vintage monosynths, drum machines and vibraphone. Stereogum‘s review compared her music to Julia Holter and Sufjan Stevens.[3] Her new EP ‘Be Brave’ was released in February and features a collaboration with different drummers and beat makers on each track.
