EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS… Tom Barford Group + TwoSpeak
Featuring an outstanding range of talented, London based musicians this exciting group regulary perform Tom’s most recent set of emotive and imaginative compositions. Tom’s writing has been descreibed by Evan Parker as “wonderfully intricate and demanding and yet is exuberantly listenable”. Tom draws on compositional influences such as Joe Lovano, The Golden Age of Steam, Mark Lockheart, Brad Mehldau and Chris Potter to create a set of music unlike anything on the London Scene today. TwoSpeak: TwoSpeak’s sound is a volatile amalgamation of rhythmic intricacy and powerful melody. This London based band uses adventurous compositions as a springboard into poignant and searching improvisations, which represent the diverse musical personalities of the group. The seed of each composition is written in accordance with specific compositional devices that are informed by the bands devotion to internal and extraneous musical cultures. Bandleader, composer and saxophonist Ronan Perrett ‘blows life and colour through the instrument’ (LondonJazz News). Born and raised in Cornwall, he has a busy and varied career as a performer, composer and educator. ‘TwoSpeak is a fusion of so many musical influences- the folk and electronic music I was exposed to growing up, the jazz and classical music I studied at the academy, and the cuban, brazillian and moroccan music I’ve discovered since arriving in London’.
