SEYE ADELEKAN: Born in Nigeria, raised in London, Holland and Ecuador, Seye is a London based Multi Instrumentalist, composer, producer best known for being the live bass player in Damon Albarn’s animated, multi-media band Gorillaz and currently with Yannis & The Yaw. Now releasing new music on his own, Seye has a crop of songs bringing a mix of 60s pop, bossa nova, Afrobeat grooves and shimmering 80s melancholy to lyrics on sobriety, love, loss and hope.
Support from Shirley Tetteh: As a firmly established part of London’s jazz scene, Shirley has been a member of the Jazz FM Awards nominated septet Nérija, also winners of the “Jazz Newcomer of the Year” category at the 2017 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, who released their debut album on Domino Records in August 2019. She was furthermore a member of Maisha, whose debut album released in November 2018 on Giles Peterson’s ‘Brownswood’ label was nominated for the 2019 Worldwide FM Awards ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ category, and SEED Ensemble, who were nominated for the 2019 Mercury Award with their 'Driftglass' album. Winner of the 'Jazz Newcomer of the Year' category at the 2018 Parliamentary Jazz Awards herself, and having accompanied such notable musicians as Gary Crosby (OBE), MOBO award winners Moses Boyd, Zara McFarlane, and alto saxophonists Nathaniel Facey and Camilla George, as well as critically acclaimed tenor saxophonist Courtney Pine (CBE), Shirley has also shown great abilities as a left-of-centre pop songwriter and producer. In October 2018 she released her first song ‘Speedial’ under the artist name Nardeydey, and was promptly included in the Gaurdian’s ‘Tunisian techno, Xitsongan rap and Satanic doo-wop: the best new music of 2019’ article in December 2018 alongside viral artists King Princess and Saweetie. Having additionally made Jack Saunders’ BBC Radio 1 ‘Next Wave’ artist pick with her second single ‘FreeFalling’ in January 2019, whilst being played multiple times on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music and Worldwide FM, and been chosen to become a Sound and Music ‘New Voices’ composer in 2020, Shirley Tetteh in her many guises, who will be releasing a new EP titled ‘Love/Pop’ imminently, is one to watch!
