Yeden are a London-based oud and violin duo focusing on Ottoman classical repertoire as well as folk music of the surrounding region. They mainly perform 18-20th century pieces, composed by artists from a myriad of cultures and ethnicities including Turkish, Armenian, Greek etc. These classical compositions were either composed for the Ottoman palace or as part of Sufi religious ceremonies. Characterised by intricate modal melodies and long rhythmic cycles, they often create a meditative and entrancing atmosphere. Yeden also perform contemporary compositions written in these classical forms, and explore how its sound has evolved through the centuries.
